2001 - 2002


October: Bethex joined the Coop ATM Network, allowing members access to over 5,000 surcharge free ATMs nationwide.

February-April: Bethex offered free tax preparation to members and the community. Over 200 families received more than $300,000 in tax refunds at the credit union! March: Launched fundraising campaign to renovate the Main Office. Over $2,000 Raised so far! Loan Officer, James Di Domenico left Bethex to move to Florida.

May: Bethex mades first mortgage loan. June: Bethex, Lower East Side People's FCU, Homesteaders FCU, Union Settlement FCU and CSAE FCU jointly made a $500,000 loan to Rite Check Financial Services Center for the renovation of its main office. Board President, David Cox, leaves Bethex also to move to Florida.

July: First participation loan with Progressive CU and Central CU was made. First meeting of the Bethex Federal Credit Union Advisory Committee was held at Mizuho Bank.

Community partnerships are very important to the credit union. Indeed, Bethex would not be where it is today without the help of its partners. Bethex has been fortunate to work with the following organizations during the past year: Aramark-New York University, Bronx Community College, the Begin Managed Program, Bronx Council on the Arts, Casa Rita, Cherry Tree Association, Citizen's Advice Bureau, Hunts Point Economic Development Corporation, Highbridge Unity Center, Lawyer's Alliance of New York, Mid Bronx Senior Citizen's Council, The Mount Hope Housing Company, The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions, The New York City Financial Network Action Consortium (NYCfNAC), New Settlement Apartments, The New York City Financial Network Action Consortium, Per Scholas not-for-profit computer company, PWB Management, RiteCheck Financial Services Center, The South Bronx Overall Development Corporation (SOBRO), St. Luke's Church, Tenants United For Better Living, the Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation.

The following small businesses chose Bethex to provide services to their employees this year: Sell-Mar Enterprises Inc. and A. Silmac, Food For Survival, and We Care Registry for Nurses in the Bronx and Martinez Cleaning Company in Queens.

Actor's Federal Credit Union, Kraft Foods Federal Credit Union, and Progressive CU have been very supportive of Bethex this year and have provided much needed equipment and advice. The National Credit Union Administration, the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions and the New York State Credit Union League have also provided technical assistance that has been instrumental to our recent growth.
